Deen Dayal Upadhyay Government Post Graduate College was established in the year 1999 by the then Higher Education Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Rakesh DharTripathi. Initially, the College opened with undergraduate level courses viz., Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). Gradually, undergraduate level course at B.Com level was introduced in the year 2007 together with postgraduate level courses; Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in the subjects; Hindi, Sociology, Political Science, History, Zoology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The college was initially affiliated with Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj (CSJM) University, Kanpur till 2016. Presently, the college is affiliated to Prof. Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) University, Prayagraj since the year 2016. The College is approved under Section 2F and 12B of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The college is located in Saidabad Block of the Handia Tehsil in the Prayagraj District. It is situated 30 km east away from district headquarters on the old GT road linking Triveni Sangam city of Prayagraj to Handia Tehsil on way to oldest sacred city, Varanasi. The objective of establishing this temple of higher learning is to provide all-round development of the youths living primarily in rural area of Prayagraj district who can be torchbearers leading path of the society. The College is known for its best teaching-learning environment in and around the district in addition to conducting better co-curricular activities and fostering good work culture. The college provides facility of career-counselling and placement cell for making students employable. The college ensures safety for girl students and promotes their empowerment through various initiatives. The college has sound internal control system to ensure provision of government scholarship to every deserving student in addition to institutional financial support to students in form of fee-reimbursement and other welfare schemes for poor and needy students. The College ensures empowerment of girl students by organising different programmes like speech and essay competition, lecture series, symposium and webinar through its various social outreach initiatives under the umbrella, the Mission Shakti program of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The college has well-functioning and vibrant Women Empowerment and Grievance Redressal Cell formed according to the Vishakha Committee Guidelines to address matters related with resolution of complaints of sexual harassment. The College promotes sports and yoga among students for leading a happy healthy life by organising annual sports and yoga training from time to time under the auspices of the Physical Education Department of the college. The college promotes harmonious development of students by sensitising students about national interests by celebrating birthdays of national luminaries Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel among others in addition to celebrating national festivals of Independence Day and Republic Day.
